Bird's Beak

‘Bird’s Beak’ is the term used to describe the narrowing appearance of the lower oesophagus, a deformity symptomatic of the rare condition achalasia. This condition prevents the ability to swallow.

In this series, medical X-rays of fluid passing through the body are painted with cyanotype chemistry, and left to develop in the sun. This leaves a distinct blue mark on the internal body, creating  obscure, organic images, perhaps physical or botanical.

The unreachable distant sun meets the unreachable inner body by the hand of the artist, and so the realms of outside and inside unite.
